Translucent menus
Candlelight: great for romance, bad for reading menus. But Damian Dowling, owner of the dimly lit Abbey in Brookline, Massachusetts, found a solution.
“It was a complete and utter fluke,” he says of the night he ran out of paper upon which to print the menu and could only find a box of translucent stock. Mounted in a clear plastic holder, the clean-looking, minimalist menu allows candlelight to shine through, illuminating signature items like Grass-Fed Hanger Steak Frites and Roasted Cod with Potato-Scallion Pancake.
