50 Great Ideas

Screening employees on the screen

JobOn.com, a new web-and-video tool to ease the usually fraught hiring process for job-seekers and employers, puts the all-crucial first-round interview up front. Those looking for work can create a profile on the website, then select questions and answer them on camera (webcam or smart phone). It’s a one-stop process, rather than filling out multiple applications and scheduling interviews for each.

Employers can register, then review applicants’ written profiles online and go straight to the video to screen as many (or few) of them as desired and narrow the field of candidates. Initial face-to-face interview appointments, time-consuming for both sides, are eliminated. Cost is zero to those applying for positions; for hirers the fee is less than the price of a classified ad.
