From recycling bin to tabletop
BottleHood in San Diego takes used glass bottles and transforms them into plates and platters, tumblers, glasses and other tableware, even jewelry and chandeliers. Red Stripe beer bottles become jars; Belvedere, Grey Goose and Absolut vodka bottles become tall tumblers. Many end up back on restaurant tables.
For wine service at Riva Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, manager Keith Steigerwald says, “We chose 12- and 16-ounce tumblers made from reclaimed wine bottles. They are exceptional conversation starters. Harbor Beach, where we are, is proud to be a turtle nesting sanctuary. Using BottleHood’s reclaimed glass lets servers tell a story about our efforts in reducing our environmental footprint, which is part of saving this species.”
