Eat a pita, feed a kid

Pita Pit, a healthy fast-casual concept based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, found an effective way to promote Share Our Strength’s annual Dine Out for No Kid Hungry last September. For the entire month, customers who made a dollar donation to the cause were rewarded with $1 off their next purchase. Although this was the first time Pita Pit participated, 62 of 180 franchised stores joined in, with some franchisees going above and beyond to publicize the campaign to end childhood hunger.

“We suggested that franchisees post the donor cards to encourage more donations,” reports Lisa Aitken, Pita Pit’s director of marketing. “Kristi Grob, the franchisee of our Billings, Montana location, cleverly posted the cards to spell out ‘No Kid Hungry.’ That store raised the most money—$1,600.”
