50 Great Ideas

Bottoms up

The shot glass and on-the-rocks glass from SideKick both boast a secret compartment—a removable bottom that can hold anything from a piece of candy to colored syrup and chips of dry ice to jazz up shooters and cocktails. At Hennessey’s Taverns, a 10-unit concept in Southern California and Las Vegas, the bar has seen a significant uptick in specialty shot sales since they purchased 1,000 glasses last fall, reports Sharon Rich, director of marketing.

“Our favorite recipe is the ‘Fireball’ using Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey,” says Rich. “We put a piece of dry ice in the bottom half of the glass, which creates an awesome (and still safe) smoking effect.” Other SideKick-inspired cocktails Hennessey’s is serving include “Steamed Apples” (Crown Royal, Apple Pucker and cranberry juice) and the “Smoking Surfer,” combining Jagermeister, coconut rum and pineapple juice.
